老山西刀削面 Shanxi Noodles: Authentic Northern Chinese Cuisine in Markham

2025 May 3.5 A Northern Chinese restaurant hidden away from it all... You certainly wouldn't have this place in mind being where it is located. 四喜丸子 (招牌special) meatballs $10.99 Tender and savory. Not your typical Cantonese style. Braised. Not bad. 麻酱烧饼 Baked cake with sesame sauce $2.79 A bit crispy, flakey cake. It's ok. Would pass. 羊肉汤刀削面 (招牌special) Sliced noodle soup with lamb $16.99 The noodles were chewy, not too wide and soaked up some of the flavors. The soup was ok. A bit plain. Not enough herbs, but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be? Personally prefer the lamb to be in slices versus cubes. 肥肠土豆粉 (特色special) potato glass noodle soup 麻辣 Spicy option $14.99 The Glass noodles were thick, unfortunately there wasn't much. The intestine was pretty good. Would recommend this dish. 酸菜抄手 pickled veggie wonton If you like wontons and sour picked veggies, this isn't bad. Small and can fit about 24-26 people. Parking plenty after hours and during the weekends as the offices are generally closed.

Tourists from Singapore here! The food is hella good and authentic, we came here early before the crowd. Had the dry sliced noodle with pork, one of their specialties and it also came with a good variety of veges alongside a good amount of meat. The other dishes my family ordered had great comments as well. The lady attending to us was very lovely and pleasant. We have similar places in Singapore but I’d take this place over those in Singapore anytime

We thought that their atmosphere could improve. - The room was small and silent. - Your conversations will be heard. So this is definitely not the place to sit down and chat. It’s meant to be a fast, quick, get up and go meal. Food was delicious. The noodles was textured and chewy, just the way they are meant to be. They make their noodles the classic way using a large dough mixing machine. Out of all the noodles we chose, the must try is their tomato and egg one. Highly recommend! They have a 5% off discount for cash, and offer the option to get free noodle addition on the side. Overall food is great, and price is great!

The noodles here are very authentic and taste great, and you can get free refills. The staff is very friendly (just like at home) and will help as much as possible. The atmosphere in the store is good, and there is soft music, suitable for eating alone or with friends.

The high Google rating is absolutely deserved. This modest hole in the wall restaurant delivers absolutely delicious noodle soup. The pork and pickled vegetable cut noodle soup is perfect. It pops with pickle and fresh cilantro flavour and the noodles and soft and luxurious. The cucumber salad also is perfectly balanced with salt, garlic and sour flavours. I’ll be back!

This is a nice cozy place and great for a quick lunch. We had the sliced dry noodles with beef — the flavor was rich and satisfying, but the meat was a bit small. The dumplings were a bit salty. The baked cake with salt and pepper was crispy on the outside and tender inside, which was quite nice. Besides, the waitress was also very friendly.

The food here is absolutely delicious! Everything is freshly made, so there’s a bit of a wait, but it’s totally worth it. Service is excellent，staff are so friendly ~I will definitely be coming back!

Really like the texture of the sliced noodles. They also can add more noodles for free!!! It’s friendly for those who have large appetite. However, really disappointed about the chili pepper with preserved egg. The quality of preserved egg is not good. But in overall I would recommend this restaurant for those who like or miss Shanxi food.
